Form 3 (4th & 5th grade) Poem Study

The students in Form 3 have been reading short stories by different authors and learning about the tools these writers use in creating interesting stories. We considered Dr. Seuss, read books by Nancy Shaw and saw how alliteration and rhyme are used. Rhyme is a "slick trick" used to create rhythm in a story and similar sounds can add to its silliness. The students wrote their own stories using alliteration, rhyme or a combination of both.

A Mouse in My House
by Marissa

A mouse in my house
is eating cheese in my room.
It left crumbs on the floor
so I whacked it with a broom.

A mouse in my house
is running all over the place!
He was not just running -
he was having a race!

A mouse in my house
is playing hide-and-seek.
I thought he was playing dumb
so I went to take a peek.

A mouse is my house
is acting really deadly.
I had enough of him
so I gave him Squid Medley.

What a mouse in my house!

Skippy Jon Jones
by Kylie

Skippy Jon Jones has lost his bones
and doesn't know where to find them.

So he asked the mouse who lives in a house,
but he just said, "Go ask the maid
who makes lemonade to see where they've been laid."

So he asked the maid,
but she just gave him lemonade.

"Oh, where are my bones!"
said Skippy Jon Jones.

"They're right over there!"
said the mouse in the house.

"Oh, thanks a lot. How could I pay you?
Should I give you a blouse?"

"Oh, no - you don't have to,"
said the mouse in the house.

Aniville

My country is a special place where hundreds of people live. My country's name is Aniville. It's called that because "Ani" in Aniville is short for "animal". Animals on Aniville are wild but always friendly.

In my country, the people in charge are a King and Queen. The people of the country call them "Banana Head". We call them that because their heads are shaped like bananas. That's how it has been in the ruler's family for ages. But the King and Queen are nice and love their nickname.

My country is shaped like a horseshoe. No one knows why that is. Some say a giant horse stepped on our once-upon-a-time normal-shaped land and left a horseshoe print. But whatever the reason, we love our land.

Our flag, population and language are not very different from our neighboring countries. There are hundreds of people in our country. Our main language is English. Our flag is on a high pole. Our flag is a square shape with a horseshoe picture in the middle. There are bananas in the corner that stand for our greatest banana head rulers. The color of the horseshoe is a sunset color. The rest of it is a sky blue, grassy green and bright yellow. We have had the same flag for many centuries and we are going to keep it forever.

Our clothes are casual and not very fancy. My country does not like fancy clothes. Rumor has it that our first leader always had bad luck when wearing fancy clothes. After his one hundred and first incident of bad luck while wearing fancy clothes, he made it against the law.

Having pets is very popular - not just one or two, but five or six. But that's the least amount you can have. Ten or twelve is more like it. You don't have to have tame pets like cats or dogs. You can have: lions, huge snakes, wolves and other wild animals.

Now for the last thing in my country, the laws. Our laws are taken very seriously. That's because our main laws are: no hunting, no wearing animal furs, no animal testing, and our most important law is to have fun and enjoy life.

MuzikWurld

Welcome to MuzikWurld. My name is Tribal Chief and I'll be giving you the grand tour. My country is in the shape of a CD. In the middle of the "CD" is my house; it is the finest building in the world. I am the ruler of MuzikWurld. Everybody in MuzikWurld loves music.

On top of our land is the CD Store Shrine. It is highly revered because that is where the CD Gods live. The 8 CD Gods are: Blues, Classical, Country, Techno, Rap, Jazz, R&B, Pop and "The God of the Muzik Gods". The Holy CD rests there. The Holy CD is a CD created by teh "The God of the Muzik Gods". His name is Rock and his Muzik is on that CD.

MuzikWurld used to be called "SeaWorld" but had to change its name due to a copyright infringement notice from "SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment". We take copyright VERY seriously in MuzikWurld. Nobody EVER gets away with downloading illegal music. We have shut down many sites such as www.getfreemusic.com and www.freemusic.net. You can see for yourself that they have been shut down.

The rest of our land is houses (not as good as mine though), shops, the MuzikPolees, MuzikGuvermint and MuzikFierMen. Most houses are in the shape of a CD or music note. The MuzikGroshereez is the most popular supermarket.

I hope you enjoyed my tour. If you would like to visit us, you can find MuzikWurld hidden in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Sports World

Sports World started out on February 26, 1999 when all the top athletes of each sport got together and decided to create a land of their own - Sports Land. They did this because they felt they weren't getting enough attention from their fans. After a few months of searching, these athletes found an uninhabited island shaped as a giant ball. They thought this was perfect because it was big enough for people to play sports and have lots of big houses with fields or courts. They appointed themselves the rulers of this country and were known as The Athletes. The police were called The Referees.

The weather was as good as anyone could want. Every day ranged between the temperatures of 70 and 85 degrees. Every piece of land was green and the sky was blue. There were lots of lakes and fresh water; plenty of it for drinks and washing and sports. There were many different kinds of fruits and good, healthy, delicious food that nobody had ever heard of. This was a perfect location to focus on sports. Each house was made in the shape of a piece of sporting equipment and only those people interested in that sport could live there.

The only people that were allowed to live in this country were athletes, people obsessed with sports, sportscasters, coaches, and the people that take care of the fields or courts. All children attended schools that focused on their sport. If a child was born that did not become interested in sports, they were removed from the country. On February 26 of each year, The Athletes would hold tryouts to see if any newcomers were worthy of participating in that athlete's sport. All residents of the country were required to wear uniforms and if they were ever approached by a referee, they had to recite the rules of their sport. All entertainment, including television programs, theater and concerts revolved around sports. If it wasn't about sports, it wasn't allowed.

The best thing about this country was even though the people were limited in what they could do, they all loved the same thing. For this reason, people rarely fought or had disagreements and they lived well. Agreement equals happy people and happy people equal a happy country!

Food is Awesome Land (The Land of Food)

Food is one of the most amazing things in the world. It can be a work of art or a calming and tasty cure to stomach growling. One of the most amazing aspects of food is that you need it to survive. Even though you need it to survive, food can do much more than that. You can create it into a work of art! Who knows, you might just be the next Van Gogh. That is why here in Food Is Awesome Land we respect food.

It all started when the Great Chef visited a savage rundown village full of barbarians and inhumane people. He saw their misery and opened up their hearts to food. These people were enchanted by the Great Chef and at once started preparing a great feast. The Great Chef helped the people with recipes and herbs. These people changed so quickly. In a few weeks their savage, rundown town turned into a prospering city with transportation and culture. These people called this city Food Is Awesome Land.

The people crowned the Great Chef as their king and ruler. This is where I come into the story. I am the great-grandson of the Great Chef himself. My father is going to hold my ceremony to become king next week. I'm excited but the responsibility is what I'm very worried about. My favorite part about this land is that all the shops, TVs, tables, cars, roads, houses (and I can keep going on) are all made out of food. My own bed is made of jell-o! The benefit of this is that no one needs to spend time earning money.

All the clothes are made out of a hard, edible substance that can bend any way to fit anyone. In this city, people spend their time playing sports, talking, riding bikes, visiting friends and going to parties. There is only one law: there is no limit to eating; eat as much as you want. The kings were created to make sure this law was enforced and that nobody was forced to stop eating. If someone was going against this law, they would be locked up for three days with just half a pound of food and two bottles of water. After that, they would be set free.

This city is shaped like a pizza. The pizza has four slices that divide the city into four sections. The first section is the sports section. It has tennis courts, basketball courts, football fields, golf courses, baseball fields and soccer fields. This place also has a gym for people who like to work out. The second section has homes and apartments. In the second section there are mountains with spaghetti sauce on top because they are right next to the spaghetti sauce clouds (instead of rain). These mountains are here because people who want peace and quiet can live up there. They are living on the border of Food Is Awesome Land, so they can travel in and out of the city almost as much as they want. The third section is the royal industry. This is where the royal people (such as me) live. The castle and the government are stationed here. The fourth section is called the dance around. This where the party rooms are and the nice restaurants are. People usually come to the fourth section to dance, sing, party and eat.

Food Is Awesome Land is in the middle of an empire called The Great Lands. This empire surrounds Food Is Awesome Land. The empire has a very big military and great trade, but very bad agriculture. So a treaty was made that declared that if we help them feed their people they will provide us instant protection. The Great Lands is a very prosperous and kind empire. We've held many parties for them and have always had the pleasure of hosting them.

This is the end of my talk about Food Is Awesome Land. I just want everyone to know that we also have hotels here so you can come and visit any time you like.

Decker

When I was five or six years old I told my mom I wanted to take horse riding lessons. My mom knew I loved horses so she signed me up. I was so excited. I would soon be able to ride a real live horse!

When we got to the ranch we saw lots of other animals like dogs, cats, chickens, and goats. When I looked around I felt sad because I couldn't see any horses. I started to cry. “What’s wrong Luci?" my mom asked.

“Where are all the ponies?" I asked. After calming me down, she told me that horses live in things called “stalls". Right away I wanted to see a stall. My mom picked me up and took me to see one.

Inside there was a beautiful horse. He was black with a white stripe going over his forehead and nose. On the stall door, there was a tile saying Magic. “That must be his name," my mom said.

After looking at all the horses, the riding teacher came up to me. "Hi Luci, my name is Cindy. I will be teaching you all about how to ride a horse." Cindy left the office area and came back with a helmet. She took the black helmet and put it on my head. “How does that fit for ya'?" The helmet felt nice and snug on my head. “Good," I said.

Cindy took us out of the office to get the horse I would ride. Cindy was pulling a huge brown horse with a white dot on his forehead. “His name is Decker," she told me. The moment I saw him I was in love. He was so cute.

That day I learned a lot of new things like how to mount a horse, the different parts of a saddle, and lots more. Decker and I became good friends. He would always be careful when I rode him. Soon I was going to the ranch three days a week.

One day I was getting Decker ready for a ride in the arena when an annoying fly was buzzing in my face. I swished it away with my hand but it never went away. I kept swooshing it away. Soon I was swishing so much I lost my balance and fell on my back. I opened my eyes and looked up at Decker standing there looking down at me. Then and there, I knew he was going to step right on my foot. Decker started to move closer, but right when he got to my foot he stopped. He bent
his neck and started to lick my face. I knew it was safe to stand up.

The minute I got to my feet, I hugged him so dearly. I loved that horse and I would do anything to see him again.
