There are many different kinds of glass. Flat glass is used to make windows. Strong glass that can stand a great amount of heat is used for making pans, engines and tubing. Safety glass is made with layers of plastic and flat glass. The outside layer of glass may shatter, but the inside layer of plastic doesn't break. The plastic holds the broken glass together and keeps it from flying around. Safety glass is used in windshields. In an accident the broken glass will not harm anyone. Banks use safety glass to stop bullets.
Glass is made by mixing ingredients. They melt it at 2,600 to 2,900 degrees Fahrenheit. When it cools it makes glass. They make bottles by blowing the glass. First they stick a pipe in the melted glass. Then they carefully blow. And that's how you make glass.
